    Bagpipes were given to the Scots by their enemies.. so they could hear the stupid buggers coming to attack.

    The Norse have em to the Irish, the Irish gave em to the Scots, the English banned them, until they realised the French and the Germans were just as terrified of them. Then the Nordics, who thought they'd gotten rid of them a thousand years before, started playing them again. And the rest of the English-speaking world just copied the English. After the fighting was over.
