A Midnight Visit Perth Girls School By the last breath of the winds that blow... Part fever-dream, part vaudeville, part escape room, part mystery, and all Poe, this is never what you expect. Presented by Fringeworld and Broad Productions, directed by Danielle Harvey, produced by Kirsten Siddle, and featuring a baker's dozen (including the building) of extraordinary performers, this is a one-of-a-kind event. Upon entry, you are given a brief history and the Rules - the most important of which are No Talking and No Touching the Performers Unless They Ask - and divided into random groups. You are then set loose in different parts of the School to search, encounter, and learn. Expect to get a good work-out. None of this is jump-scare horror - the horrors are much more subtle and intimate. Some parts are one-on-one, others engage all in the room. All are disturbing. Well, Alicia Smith​​​ and I are just back from another Fringe show, this time a remarkable adagio/acrobalance show "A Simple Space", by the WA troupe Gravity and Other Myths. And what an extraordinary show. Using only the simplest of props, the seven acrobats perform to their absolute limits - sometimes competing, often cooperating, and sometimes both at once. From strip skipping (don't worry, nothing shows), to some of the most intricate and precise passes of each other imaginable, the show is full steam ahead. Even when the action appears to pause, extraordinary things are happening. Even the audience gets in on the act - in both one of the most competitive of the sequences, and one of the most graceful demonstrations of trust I have seen on stage. 10/10 and Cirque du Soleil in your living room on the Sid and Nancy scale. #fringeworld #fringeworld2018 http://gravityandothermyths.com.au/a-simple-space/

Last night Alicia Smith​ and I saw Saucy Jack and the Space Vixens at Rigby's Bar and Grill. You can see the inspiration of Rocky Horror, and but it takes that distant inspiration in completely new directions and creates something new, fresh, and just as catchy. One big aspect of that divergence is that of overall mood. Rocky Horror is just that - a very dark horror dressed up in the glitz of a party. But for all the glitz, it is a very dark and downbeat story. Saucy Jack and the Space Vixens it the exact opposite - it is a bright and upbeat story, that happens to be dressed up as a murder mystery. If you manage to catch it - where ever it happens to be playing - you will be in for a treat. This evening we saw the last performance of Tubular Bells For Two for this #FringeWorld . It was amazing, so have a read of Alicia Smith​'s review - which is likewise amazing. Revolutionary for the time, the young musical prodigy created an amazing work - and I remember my music teacher in 1978 playing us the bit that everyone knows, or should know and telling us this was an important piece of music. You know, where the instruments are named and then played with the recurring theme. Of course bits of the album were used in the Exorcist and the London Olympics and so forth.  I heard the whole album, both sides, and on vinyl and cd. I play it quite often and its successor albums, dvds, other works by Oldfield. Hubbub - The Mandurah Fringe Mini-festival Hubbub is the Mandurah extension of #FringeWorld and presents a selection of the more popular shows, and a few specialties for the location. Centered around the Mandurah Performing Arts Centre, it brings some of the colour and pageantry of Fringe World to the Peel Region. We've just attended "Sweet Dreams: Songs by Annie Lennox", performed by Michael Griffiths​​ - See Alicia Smith​​'s review for more on that. In the early evening we get some street performance in the form of acrobats from beneath the sea, including a stilt-walking jellyfish! We also have much better food options, with an home cooked foods van (DinnerPeace) and the baked spud van just outside the centre. If you are in the area, or have missed a show in Perth, give Hubbub a go - it is sure to be fun! #Hubbub

Alicia Smith and i went to this amazing one-off event this evening - and still had the brainpower afterwards to write a review - something I did not! Originally shared by Alicia Smith Nosferatu with live score composed and played by Viola Dana. This was an amazing experience down at Scarborough Beach at the Sunset Verandah - Big Top tonight. You unfortunately don't have the chance to see this performance at the rest of the Fringe as it was one night only. Not the usual Fringe 1 hour show. Not something the performers could do over and over - this is intense work. They played a very good restoration of the classic horror film Nosferatu, and the band provided the score to it - live and with no stops. This adds true intensity to cinema. For nearly two hours the band played constantly building the sound picture and the soul of the film.
