These three trees turned up in a large area of vacant land near one of Perth's primary arterial roads.

One or more have been turning up there for some years, appearing a day or two before Christmas, and vanishing again around Jan 5. I have no idea who puts them there, or why, but they have become as much a feature of our summer Christmas as the now defunct beer-can tree from down the road.

Very sweet!

Like a lot of things related to the Honourable Mr. Turnbull's leadership, not perfect, but a marked improvement.

Actually, given the nature of Australian politics in the modern world, that would not be a bad epitaph for any Prime Minister. Here's hoping you get to keep it up, Mr. Turnbull!

About the Weekly Photo Project 2016

Welcome to the 2016 Weekly Photo Project - it's open for all levels of photographers and you can join at any time!

The idea of the project is to have fun, whilst learning more about photography and your camera.

The idea is simple: each week you will try to take a new photograph based on a theme, executed any way you feel fit. The list of themes for the year and the copy / paste tags for each theme can be found in the Community

Try to take the photos weekly if possible (it is more fun that way - we don’t check exif data but “stockpiling” images in advance or raiding your archive would not be in the spirit of the project). The Project should not be a source of stress though: if you’re late then you’re late, if you miss a theme then you miss a theme, so what a…

Ten Eleven Handy hints for participating in a Weekly Photo Project

Ten Eleven Handy hints for participating in a Weekly Photo Project

As we get ready for the 2016 Weekly Photo Project, I thought I'd share some of the things I've learnt over past few years.

First - Don't be shy - we really don't care what level of experience or quality of gear you have. We have absolute beginners and full-time professionals taking part, with everything from high-end DLSRs to 2MP smartphones. The point is to take part - to paraphrase one of my author friends "If you want to be a photographer, take photos!", and this is as true for those just wanting to improve their skills as for those looking to turn (or are already) pro.

Second - Make sure you create a new album for the project at the start of the year, and (this is the important bit) add each photo to it before you share it. And include the theme in the caption of the photo before you share it - it makes it a lot easier when you are reviewing your work.

Third - Please re-share your posts! After…

Ceiling decorations at a public open area in a new arcade in Perth. Surrounding the skylight are skyscrapers reaching UP , while the COLOUR/COLOR glass baffles provide LEADING LINES and REFLECTIONS, the lights give SYMMETRY, there is WATER on the glass roof from a passing rainstorm (you can just make out the CLOUDS AND SKY), and the REPETITIVE patterns complete the image.

So that's eight REPEATED themes in one :) (Can you find any more?)

This has to stop.

This has to stop.

And who has to stop it?

Us. Blokes.

Because it is up to us to change our attitudes, and to damn well growup.

The only time it is the victim's fault is ... never. Which means that the only people to blame for violence against women are the perpetrators - and the rest of us who say (even unconsciously)  that it is in any way even partly the victims' fault.

So I say again, the only people who can stop this is us.
