Well, Alicia Smith and I are just back from another Fringe show, this time a remarkable adagio/acrobalance show "A Simple Space", by the WA troupe Gravity and Other Myths. And what an extraordinary show. Using only the simplest of props, the seven acrobats perform to their absolute limits - sometimes competing, often cooperating, and sometimes both at once. From strip skipping (don't worry, nothing shows), to some of the most intricate and precise passes of each other imaginable, the show is full steam ahead. Even when the action appears to pause, extraordinary things are happening. Even the audience gets in on the act - in both one of the most competitive of the sequences, and one of the most graceful demonstrations of trust I have seen on stage. 10/10 and Cirque du Soleil in your living room on the Sid and Nancy scale. #fringeworld #fringeworld2018 http://gravityandothermyths.com.au/a-simple-space/

A quick shout-out to folks at GoSun - a solar cooker manufacturer in the US. They do a range of high-end evacuated-tube solar cookers - and they are passionate about the industry. Passionate enough to produce this comparison of the various technologies and brands out there, including their own, and honest enough to point out that their product is not always the ideal solution. They even name competitors that they think are better for some circumstances. That is how you build an industry, not just your own company. https://www.gosunstove.com/blogs/news/box-solar-ovens-versus-vacuum-tube-cookers

"Under human control" is very optimistic! Originally shared by Paul Snedden Nine ways to divide Australia Ism's not included! There's several ways to divide this country, some of which our governments endeavour to do on a daily basis. The good folks at Vivid Maps have devised nine different ways to break up this wonderful land, which you'll find in the attached image. There's a few issues, so let's take a look. 1. Bogans and Hipsters - I'm neither, so I guess that means I don't belong? 2. AFL and Rugby - Cricket is the one true national sport. 3. Japan can have it - I'm pretty sure they meant China, given the current rate of sell-off to our imperial overlords. 4. Resources - See #3 5. Under Human Control - That's VERY ambitious. 6. Flights and Amazon - Poor Radelaide. No one cares. 7. Queen Victoria - I'm still irked by the senseless naming of States that we have in this country. 8. Drugs and Alcohol - I'm a stoner? Can som

Let me introduce you to the wonder of ねほりんぱほりん (Nehorin Pahorin).

Let me introduce you to the wonder of ねほりんぱほりん (Nehorin Pahorin). It's a talk show on NHK, now in its second season, that I think is utterly brilliant. It's all done with puppets. But the show isn't for kids. The hosts interview real adults, mostly couples, about some unusual circumstances in their lives, but because of the whole shame culture here, they don't reveal any identities. The voices are real but distorted like they do on the evening news. The brilliant part is how the puppeteers then act out the people's words with the puppets, moving arms and heads and everything as if the puppet is speaking. The hosts, a man and a woman who are fairly well-known TV personalities, are depicted as a pair of moles (or perhaps some other ground burrowing rodent). The male host even wears a miner's hat and a pickax on his back, and the animated opening sequence shows the pair digging through the ground like in the 80s video game Dig Dug. The name of the show means somet

Yesterday I received a rather belated birthday present from Alicia Smith - a twilight cruise on the pinnace Duyfken - a replica of the first european ship to explore Australia. Thank-you sweety! It was rather delayed, as the day before we were to go on the cruise back in October, a huge storm blew up and destroyed her engines. Through the generosity of the public they have now been replaced, and we spent a stunning afternoon and evening on the river, chatting with the crew. They still owe some money for the repairs - you can help out at http://www.duyfken.com

In the world of nuclear arms treaties, to verify compliance you need a portable and robust trusted computing platform with known behaviour and no backdoors. The 6502 is simple, and old, and well-understood, so in this talk from the CCC we learn about using an Apple IIe to capture data from a gamma ray detector and to compare a spectrum against a template. It turns out the 1MHz 6502 has the horsepower! On the proper way to eat sushi

On the proper way to eat sushi Most of Japanese TV is about food, which is odd considering that Japan consumes fewer calories per person than any of the major industrialized nations, by far. Not that there are many cooking shows. There aren't. Unlike in America, where people learn to cook from books and TV personalities, Japanese people learn to cook from their mothers. TV here is filled with "magazine shows" which cover all manner of topics that might appear in the Lifestyle section of the newspaper, including food. A typical segment will follow two male hosts, accompanied by an attractive and much younger female host, as they wander some local town on foot looking for a specific mom-and-pop shop that they heard makes its oyakodon in some special way. The hosts will meet the proprietors, make small talk, and sample the dish to visible delight, screaming "Oishi!" (Delicious.) Then the secret will be revealed... but censored, to entice you back after the commerci

This explains so many things... Originally shared by Paul Snedden Have you ever been to Australia? Read on... Australia is not real. It's a hoax, made for us to believe that Britain moved over their criminals to someplace. In reality, all these criminals were loaded off the ships into the waters, drowning before they could see land ever again. It's a coverup for one of the greatest mass murders in history, made by one of the most prominent empires. Australia does not exist. All things you call "proof" are actually well fabricated lies and documents made by the leading governments of the world. Your Australian friends? They're all actors and computer generated personas, part of the plot to trick the world. If you think you've ever been to Australia, you're terribly wrong. The plane pilots are all in on this, and have in all actuality only flown you to islands close nearby - or in some cases, parts of South America, where they have cleared space and hired ac
