We have been debating exactly what this is.

We have been debating exactly what this is. Wedgetailed Shearwater? Hutton's Shearwater? A Booby? Gannet?? This was taken at City Beach in Perth, so the Booby option is rather out of range... Behaviours included frequent plunging dives into the water on bent wings, followed by bobbing on the surface (apparently consuming prey there). At least two were sighted. They were fishing about 50m offshore, and sometimes closer, but never near the break-line. Please share around - we're quite mystified.

"Autumn Afternoon Light"

Image
"Autumn Afternoon Light" #WeeklyPhotoProject2013 Weekly Photo Project 2013 curated by Andrew Willard , Iain Harley and  Tiina Niskanen Week 15: HDR This was taken while waiting for the bus just outside of work. I had been taking some shots of jets coming in on final approach (the airport boundary is about 2km from my office) when the light became just right on some lemon gums across the road. The title is stylistically inspired by the chapter titles from "Yokohama  Kaidashi Kikou", a very quiet and magical manga I am inordinately fond of.

Yet another Google easter-egg :)

Allie Brosh has posted a new tale on Hyperbole and a Half - and it is one of the most moving (and funny) descriptions of what depression is like, and how it feels to start to come out the other side. http://hyperboleandahalf.blogspot.com.au/2013/05/depression-part-two.html

If you're angry too, then do something . Write your Congresscritter. Talk to other people. Post about it.
