"And a shot rang out..." Murder on the High Seas! Who was the victim? Who was the murderer? Who will find them out? And what is the dark secret of this seemingly happy cruise ship?   (Dramatic chord) Taken shortly after sunset with rapidly fading light, I decided to go for a noir look - and suddenly I had a 50's movie promo shot!

A reminder that on the 9th of May, F Stop Lounge is running a photowalk down in Fremantle. Although the event officially starts at 3PM there is an initial gathering at 2PM. Check it out! Originally shared by Leigh Diprose F Stop lounge’s next location for a FREE photo walk is all the way over in Western Australia. So the photographers of Perth get ready! F Stop Lounge contributor Jasmine Banks of Jasmine Skye Photography will be leading the way around the beautiful old streets of Fremantle, for an afternoon of photography fun. With an emphasis on trying new techniques, learning, networking and sharing information for every level of photographer. We will be kicking off at 2pm, so if you are late meet us along the way, we will be heading towards Pin B (see map) before we make our way back to Little Creatures Brewery for a drink afterwards. You don’t need to own a fancy camera to come along (most people have pretty awesome cameras in their phone these days- so no excuses!!) so really all

A question for the wisdom of the Net:

A question for the wisdom of the Net: A few years back, Alicia Smith and I saw a music video on RAGE ( ABCTV AUSTRALIAN MUSIC SHOW ) 1987 - PRESENT that featured people receiving messages and notes along the lines of "They're here" or "They're starting" - and dropping whatever they were doing to journey to a field. There are people hitching rides there, and so on.  One key thing was a signpost "Mysterious Lights Viewing Area" or similar. Eventually we get to see the lights - which are small golden motes rising up. Can anyone identify the song and video from that? My google-fu is failing me

Smith #WPP2015 #WPP2015-Wk15-BlueHour The Galaxy Drive-in Theatre in the northern suburbs of Perth is the last drive-in cinema in Western Australia, the only other (in the country town of Busselton) having closed last year. The good news is that the Galaxy is showing no signs of closing any time soon. A few years back they spent some big money to upgrade to digital projection gear so as to be able to show the newest releases - a policy (along with weekend double-features) that has seen their attendance numbers grow and keep the business profitable.

John Samuel reflects on the tragedy of forgetting the reason for remembrance.

John Samuel reflects on the tragedy of forgetting the reason for remembrance. I do not entirely agree, having seen the somber and respectful families last night at the vigil. Yes, the popular press, some politicians, and some business forces seek to change the message, but many remember, and are passing the real message on to the next generations. Originally shared by John Samuel When I was growing up, and coming to realise that there is no glory in war[1], I came to appreciate the wisdom of Australia, and New Zealand, commemorating a defeat. http://piratesobg.wordpress.com/2015/04/25/losing-wisdom-for-mythology-anzac-day-2015

One hundred years ago, a group of Australian and New Zealand troops (with some Indian troops as well) landed on the shores of Gallipoli. They were opposed by the troops of the Ottoman Empire, lead by a colonel Mustafa Kemal.  Although poorly lead, the ANZAC troops fought bravely, and impressed the opposing troops and their commander - not that this made them ease up in any way. It did, however, open the path to a number of truces to recover wounded and to bury the dead. In the end, the ANZACs were forced to retreat, but did so with great cunning - leaving the Ottoman troops thinking the area was still defended for several hours.  The troops on both sides fought with incredible bravery, and had the respect of their enemies. After the war was over, both sides spoke well of the quality of the other. And the Ottoman commander? He is better known as Atatürk, and founded the modern republic of Turkey. And, nineteen years later, in 1934 Atatürk wrote this tribute: "Those heroes that shed

Árstíðir are an Icelandic folk-rock band, and this is probably their best-known piece, an impromptu acapella rendition of a 13th century Icelandic hymn.
