Lyrics junky alert! A shout-out to Ricardo Autobahn and Jenny McLaren of Spray. It is to say thanks for https://spray.bandcamp.com/track/rotating-the-square from Enforced Fun, and the wonderful line "You just can't keep doing that! It makes no sense! It's like rotating the square in Tetris!" I'm putting it alongside Stefan Gange's "Reality might not get out of Beta today" for memorable lines. https://spray.bandcamp.com/track/rotating-the-square

Many thanks to Alicia Smith for the sand-writing and being incredibly patient through a very long and hot day! 41C in Perth, and 14:15 hours of sunlight. All compressed down to 1:21 (or 1:40 with titles). An amazing day, and not something I'm about to repeat. We chewed through two external 50000mAh battery packs, had the Theta overheat, and had to deal with flies, mozzies, sandflies, and the UV levels. We also got to meet and talk to dozens of interested people. It was an phenomenal project, and not one you get a second take at. I hope you enjoy. A little exercise I offered up to our W.A.

A little exercise I offered up to our W.A. photowalk community. Sharing around, because you don't have to be in W.A. to do it. Originally shared by Rob Masters OK folks! Time for something a little different! This is not a photo walk - it is more of a photo sit around and watch. Next Wednesday (Dec 21) is the Summer Solstice in the Southern Hemisphere. If you have the time to spare, the exercise is this: Take a full day (Dawn to Dusk) timelapse. It does not matter where, but aim for something around 2-4 minutes long that captures the full daylight period. Then post your results here, so we can see! For those playing in the Northern Hemisphere, it will be your Winter Solstice. Play along, but don't freeze! And don't forget your sunscreen!

A 'Development Class', it has gone from an overgrown plank with a sail to a stick on wings with a sail in the course of the last 20 years. They are incredibly fast, and when they come a cropper, they really come a cropper! This would be the first time I have set out to create a post-process composite from the outset. This is created from two shots, about 10 minutes and 1km apart of the same boat. Edited in #pixlr for the composite and #snapseed to finish. The worst of the worst of the 1940s. Welcome to Hushkoia! Originally shared by Winchell Chung “Well we were hoping for something that looks really cool and everything and is really really fast, mmm, in fact would it be too much to ask for it to be fast enough that the closing speed between it and any potential target would be so high as to make it more or less impossible to aim and fire the guns at anything with any realistic chance of success? And could it have a cannon with a really low muzzle velocity to properly compound that problem? Also we were wondering if it might have no range at all, and it’d be good if we could have it land on a ski or something, preferably as a glider, and we want it to blow up all the time for no apparent reason so it’d be best if it was full of crazy volatile fuels. Oh and if possible we’d like the fuel to dissolve the pilot. Talking of the pilot we thought it might be nice to design in a terrifying aerodynamic flaw that will definitely kill him like m

Via Michael J. Coffey. Yes, it can happen here. Originally shared by Yonatan Zunger This video has been making the rounds on social media, and at first I ignored it because I figured it would just be a piece of propaganda meant to preach to the choir. I was wrong: this is actually an extremely intelligent and informative short film about despotism. (And despite being an American film from 1946, made in the immediate aftermath of WWII, it doesn't give the US any sort of free ride at all – as you'll notice from some of the examples shown silently in the background) The film begins by reminding you that the forms of democracy alone don't tell you anything; you need to look deeper. The two key indicators it points at are whether respect and power are equally shared across the community, or whether they are concentrated, with only certain people being thought worthy of those. Those two, in turn, are powered by two leading indicators: whether the distribution of economic power a

Our one advantage is that we might learn from their experience. Now is a good time to do so. Here are twenty lessons from the twentieth century, adapted to the circumstances of today. 1. Do not obey in advance. Much of the power of authoritarianism is freely given. In times like these, individuals think ahead about what a more repressive government will want, and then start to do it without being asked. You've already done this, haven't you? Stop. Anticipatory obedience teaches authorities what is possible and accelerates unfreedom. 2. Defend an institution. Follow the courts or the media, or a court or a newspaper. Do not speak of "our institutions" unless you are making them yours by acting on their behalf. Instit

Wow! The new OK Go! video is amazing and thought provoking. Originally shared by Dryade Geo "The song 'The One Moment' is a celebration of (and a prayer for) those moments in life when we are most alive," the band says in the video's credits. We have only these few moments. Luckily, among them there are a few that really matter, and it's our job to find them.
