Via Winchell Chung comes this rather extraordinary piece about the latest verification of The Quantum Zeno Effect. QZE comes about when you measure something fast enough that it cannot migrate to a superposition state (from which new results can occur), and so returns to the original state.

I can see some fun fiction emerging from this, using some sort of macro-quantum effect to freeze time for something. Scientifically dodgy, but good enough for a story.
