The De Havilland Vampire has a special place despite this, and always gives me a thrill - and a bit of chill. Mostly due to a single novella, one that I consider the author's finest work.

And as November rolls towards December and Christman, it is time to pull The Shepherd from the bookshelf again.

Maybe one day an airshow will do a combined Vampire / Mosquito flyby...

I'm out and about again, looking forward to a packed day tomorrow.

Tonight two classics in formation :)

Vampire and Airmacchi MB-326, better known here as the Impala.

  1. Nice shot.

My parents stay about 1km from the Swartkop AFB where these aircraft train and I've just come back from three weeks of staying there. I can just about recognise the vampire by sound now. ;-)

    Edit:
Also, Forsyth is one of my favourite authors and I agree that The Shepherd is one of the best!

  2. Thank you for the reshare and comments :) The whine of a Goblin is quite distinct.

I'm quite close to Swartkop as well and consider the yearly show as my "home" event.
