Hmm. A trope subverted becomes a trope in itself.
ReplyDeleteEven the wonderful, Wonder woman uses many of the classic tropes. Ie. Mildly rebellious/ wilful Child burdened by portents grows to restless adulthood. There's a crisis, goes on a road trip with a potential Romantic interest, who dies (man in fireball trope? Happens a lot.) and then somehow provides inspiration, viola victory.
Followed by the typically extended superhero mourning period and pointlessly carries a torch for decades.
