This is absolutely horrible! What about poor pedestrians and cyclists. We get dazzled as well. Even modern low beam lights can be physically painfull and most totally obscure any chance of seeing the turn indicators. With high beam this is going to be a nightmare.

If you look how it neatly sits accross the tail lights of the vehichle ahead I would suspect a camera looking for headlights and taillights and moving one of more shades (given they say mechanical) to shield the target. I would have assumed a LED shuttter but maybe they just like servos? Will it work properly for motorcycles or cars with one headlight or tail-light out? Maybe I need an ultra-bright headlight and tail-light on my bike?
