Whilst I disagree on the matter of Powergrid, that is a matter of taste, rather than any actual failing (I have a loathing of linear programming, you see).

Everything else is just about spot-on.

Saw this on Cracked and immediately thought it needed to be shared here. Basically, the article takes 6 traditional/classic-styled games, discusses how stupid they are (I wish I could say that it approached each game's flaws critically, but this is Cracked!) and provides suggestions for what to play instead. What do you all think about the suggestions made?

  1. So far I have not got past starting a game of power grid. But all the other ones given as substitutes were fun.

  2. If you enjoy recreational accounting and linear programming, give it another go. Otherwise, you have already won. But yes, the rest are good fun, or at least look to be (we still have not played KoT or Alien Frontiers).

  4. Power Grid is fine but like a lot of games you can play it like competition Bridge players or you can play it for fun. I liked both games of it that I played and didn't have to resort to accounting or linear programming ... but I won't try to deny that linear programming is something that comes naturally to me.

  5. Oh the reason I didn't finish was because I was at a con and ran out of time. Will try it again someday.
