  2. Ian C Taylor Hey, what have you got against my wonderful, pedal powered kayak? Hands free for photography, what's not to like?

  3. As I said not for me .if you are stupid enough to go out in open water in that that's your privilege but its idiots like u that do that. & then expect somebody to risk there lives to come. & save you

  4. Ian C Taylor we don't do stupid when it comes to water. We take extensive precautions, train ourselves (and get expert training where appropriate), carry all appropriate (and more) safety gear, ensure we don't over-reach our abilities, and keep up our  rescue insurance - for when Mother Nature turns her eye on us.

Not for you? Fine. But please do not insult us, or make accusations from a position of ignorance.

  5. Ian C Taylor I never kayak alone. I carry flares, wear my pfd at all times on the water, I have a marine vhf with which I log on and log off to the appropriate sea rescue organisation as I'm entering and leaving the water (In this case, Fremantle Volunteer Sea Rescue), and to also listen for weather alerts on it. I am in possession of “Marine Radio Operators (VHF) Certificate of Proficiency” which is an internationally recognised certification.

I can also swim and have practised recovery in my vessel.

I am not stupid. I am not an idiot. Rescue organisations want people to ENJOY the water, not stand on the bank and just look at it.

  6. Just curious Ian C Taylor , What do you see as unsafe about these kayaks?

  7. Fantastic photo.  I've never seen a petal kayak.  Been out of the game a little while.  Have a kayak myself, but haven't been for a couple of years.  Very safe, non tipsy  except in ocean waves coming into shore.  That takes some practice.

  8. Ginnie Lerch :-) Hobie do the most popular of the pedal drive kayaks. They have a pair of fins that stick down below the boat and flap - a bit like penguin flippers. Our boats are the tractors of the range - slow and stable - which can carry a week's worth of camping gear and food for when we want to do extended trips.

    Wonderful fun!
