They have a pair of fins that stick down below the boat and flap - a bit like penguin flippers. Our boats are the tractors of the range - slow and stable - which can carry a week's worth of camping gear and food for when we want to do extended trips.

Wonderful fun!Rob Mastershttps://plus.google.com/104545783008574601062noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5930785986842623247.post-36062959891048935042013-02-25T21:19:33.348+08:002013-02-25T21:19:33.348+08:00Fantastic photo. Very safe, non tipsy except in ocean waves coming into shore. That takes some practice.Ginnie Lerchhttps://plus.google.com/104441355304167311880noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5930785986842623247.post-70917114763530249632013-02-25T15:40:30.939+08:002013-02-25T15:40:30.939+08:00Just curious Ian C Taylor , What do you see as uns...Just curious Ian C Taylor , What do you see as unsafe about these kayaks?Stephen Gunnellhttps://plus.google.com/110465856174742482378noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5930785986842623247.post-50971965994221885642013-02-25T15:30:55.690+08:002013-02-25T15:30:55.690+08:00Ian C Taylor I never kayak alone. I carry flares, wear my pfd at all times on the water, I have a marine vhf with which I log on and log off to the appropriate sea rescue organisation as I'm entering and leaving the water (In this case, Fremantle Volunteer Sea Rescue), and to also listen for weather alerts on it. I am in possession of “Marine Radio Operators (VHF) Certificate of Proficiency” which is an internationally recognised certification.

I can also swim and have practised recovery in my vessel.

I am not stupid. I am not an idiot. We take extensive precautions, train ourselves (and get expert training where appropriate), carry all appropriate (and more) safety gear, ensure we don't over-reach our abilities, and keep up our rescue insurance - for when Mother Nature turns her eye on us.

Not for you?
