Warning: Christian content/ranting ahead
I've been silent on this issue for far too long, but this video helped solidify some of the thoughts I've had. I am a conservative Christian, but today I am coming out in favor of fairness ordinances for LGBT people like the one passed in this small town.

This video got me in the feels, it really did. I know it was meant to be mostly humorous, but there is a lot of truth to it. And I want to take a moment to address some of the things in here, from a Christian perspective.

First of all, the pastor is a bigot. But he's quoting the party line, so he doesn't think he's a bigot. At one point he says, "Homosexuals are sinners, and without Jesus they're going to hell." He's heartbreakingly close, but he's missing it. The Bible says that all people are sinners. "All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." God doesn't really discriminate on that point, right?

So here's the question: What if a LGBT person does believe in Jesus?

The Bible tells us they're saved. Unconditionally and forever. ::shrug:: This really is the basics here. I don't get why so many Christians are missing this and sending the message that gays aren't welcome in churches. (And that message is ringing out loud and clear. I know gay people who have been shunned from their churches. I know others who are still in the closet because they know their church would kick them out. There are LGBT people who love Jesus. Who knew?)

Another thing I wanted to point out from this is that there is a person in this clip who is a lot like Jesus. Can you spot him? It's the cop. He loves this guy, they've been friends for years, and he advocates for him even at the expense of his own reputation. I imagine if Jesus were walking the earth today, he'd be just like this, hanging out with whoever the church despised at the time. He was always hanging out with those evil tax collectors, smelly fishermen, and lower-than-low women. Nowadays, with 12 men with him all the time, he'd be accused of being gay, and we "Christians" would kill him all over again for supporting the "gay agenda."

Christians have a line: "Hate the sin, love the sinner." In this case, we're kind of stuck at "hate the gay" without figuring out how to get to love the human person in need of love and forgiveness and all those other things we human beings need. HUMAN BEING. SINNER. So are we all.

"If anyone says, 'I love God,' and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen." I John 4:20 (ESV)

tl;dr: Don't be a bigot. Be more like Jesus. Be excellent to one another.

I'm probably going to get in trouble with a whole lot of people who disagree with me. c'est la vie. I reserve the right to delete hateful comments and to point out examples of bigotry with a hearty shamefest.
